The Oyster Perpetual Motion Cosmograph Daytona is an icon forever united in name and function with the world of motorsports. Sixty years after its birth, it remains unique among sports chronographs.
An iconic model launched in 1963, the Cosmograph Daytona was designed to meet the needs of racing professionals. Equipped with a tachymeter bezel and a high-performance mechanical movement, this now legendary chronograph is the tool of choice for measuring time intervals or determining average speed.
On the Cosmograph Daytona, elapsed hours and minutes are displayed on the counters at 9 and 3 o’clock, respectively, while elapsed seconds are read by the arrow-shaped central hand and the 60-second scale around the dial. The Cosmograph Daytona’s metal or high-tech ceramic bezel can be used as a tachymeter. Its scale can be used to read the average speed over a certain distance based on the elapsed time. This makes it the ideal instrument for measuring rates of 400 units per hour, expressed in kilometers, miles or any other unit of measurement.
The Cosmograph Daytona is equipped with the caliber 4130, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex, providing a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. This movement integrates the chronograph function with fewer components, thus further enhancing its reliability. A mechanism with a column wheel and a vertical clutch carries out the chronograph. This allows the clock to start instantly and with great precision.
As with all Rolex watches, the Cosmonaut Daytona is Super Chronometer certified. This designation proves that every look that leaves the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests by Rolex in its own laboratories according to its own standards. Super Chronometer status is marked by a green seal on each Rolex watch and has a five-year international guarantee.
The Cosmograph Daytona is inextricably linked to the world of motor racing. The watch pays homage to Daytona Beach, Florida, where a passion for speed and racing flourished in the early 20th century.
Over the decades, the brand’s presence in fierce competition has steadily grown, as has its support for the world’s leading drivers and races. Throughout this history, the Cosmograph Daytona has embodied the unique link between Rolex and motorsports.
